PK Review

We live in such a shabby world where people loot & kill each other in the name of religion that even an alien from outer space can come teach us lessons on how to live life without depending on the various Gods or their so called 'agents'!

Aamir Khan - the only Indian actor who has his 5 films(one directed by himself) listed among IMDB Top 250 movies of all times, features as a funny Bhojpuri speaking alien & carries the full weight of the film on his shoulders!

Having unmasked the hospitals' true faces in #MunnabhaiMBBS, delivered Gandhian principles to youngsters in #LageRahoMunnabhai, showcased Engineering students' pressure in #3Idiots, #RajkumarHirani has repeated his same movie making style with religions this time!

#PK movie is not on par with the above films but definitely close behind and it carries a strong msg which has been told already & which will be repeatedly told again n again until all the money minting & killings in the name of religion has been stopped!

The Hobbit : The Battle of the Five Armies

What a defining chapter it was!

So many philosophies of life showcased visually in this 3rd part alone :

a. How you will see your trusted one in his eyes even when death is gonna grab u from behind!

b. How gold can change even the Noble's minds & how friendship can change the changed minds!

c. how a common enemy can bind two opposite camps into one !

d. how Love & its loss can only be the worst pain felt even when the whole world collapses!

e. how a king will fight when his very pride has been questioned!

f. how people will rob u out even when u r at the other part of the world!

All this & much more with the most amazing war sequences, with New Zealand's most beautiful locations, with awesome CG work & BGM, one last time!

Felt blessed to see how awesomely Peter Jackson has envisioned the climax of Tolkien's novel written way back in 1937 !

No more #Hobbit :( but the only consoling thing is I know what will happen from now on after the climax as Peter Jackson had already delivered his masterpieces as #LordoftheRings trilogy !

P.S. : Watch it in HFR3D technology to witness the Middle-Earth closer home, #OneLastTime on big screen! What a defining chapter it was!

Kaaviya Thalaivan Review

Tamil Nadu - A state whose people r often being mocked at for having made their actors as Chief Ministers or dream them as their future CMs !

Well whoever mocks, they should also know the fact that this was a state where patriotism was spread in the Pre-Independence era mostly through stage plays & people took, whatever their actors say, to their hearts & followed it in the struggle against freed...om! The same practice of hero worshipping follows henceforth!

#KaaviyaThalaivan - The bygone culture of stage play lives & how they impacted freedom struggle have been catered so well to the current generation with a script mildly based on the lives of yester yr legends!

Though Prithviraj often says in the film that he is being used as a 'side character', in reality, he is the show stealer! Siddharth gives top notch performances often though underplays (as in Jigarthanda)at times giving screen space to others!! Vedhika is the 'wow' factor & surprises every1 at how good she can act given a chance !

Nirav Shah's painting kinda camera work & Rahman's old style music adds colorful flavor to the feast.

Though the film has all these plus factors & received only a very few 'kindals & kalaais' from the audience, Vasanthabalan fails a little as we don’t feel or emote for the characters at the end!

It could be called as an awesome feast but with no lingering taste in our tongues after its done!

Interstellar Review

It was the first time for me that a movie I went to see actually taught me concepts and theories of Physics visually ! That is only the first of the few other firsts !

Putting the Oscar Winning 'Gravity' movie to shame, Nolan showcases a concept so hard to believe yet so close to reality in space travel genre!

We travel along with the characters to the horizon and beyond and marvel as the plot unfolds with Nolan's trademark complex but brilliant twists and life's philosophies!

Its high time that the Oscar panel acknowledges the master storyteller and director available amongst us! Because their mission does not work if the rare talented people are dead by the time they pull it off!

Vaelai Illaa Pattadhaari Review

According to me there r mostly 3 types of Dhanush films:

1. Commercial script + NO   brilliant act : Maapillai, Nayyaandi etc (usually which I hate to the core)

2. Poor script + His Brilliant act : Three, Maryaan etc

3. Realistic script + His Brilliant act : Pudhupettai, Aadukalam etc

Oh but this 25th film of Dhanush falls under the rare category he chooses!

4. Class & Mass (both script & acting) : Yaaradi Nee Mohini & Raanjhnaa

A tribute to all Engineers, its a transition of a guy from being a Vaelai Illaa Pattadhaari (Unemployed Graduate) to a VIP in our society with a few filmy liberties taken on the way!

Since almost all audiences have crossed this stage or in the crossing stage, VIP rockzz & will rule our hearts for some time! :) :)

How to train your dragon 2 review

From the adventurous journeys to the toothless' cute mannerisms we hv seen them all in 1st part itself! Though the same was repeated for a while, its great to see them back with more dangers & giant dragons around them!

Liked the portions of Hiccup bonding with the mysterious dragon rider! Could hv avoided the sad moments in between which made a few kids in theatre literally cry! After a long climax war comes the peace!

The movie had the best animated visuals ever yet my fav is the 1st part for which the title stands for & this is the 2nd best in which Toothless needs no more training ;)

Ponniyin Selvan on Stage !

It is still a miracle as to how almost all imp scenes from 5volumes of the book were covered within 3.5hrs(with live orchestra)! Actors were brilliant & when Actor Pasupathi gave an entry as Karikaalan, claps thundered! Dialogues with wit, sarcasm, romance were brought as such as in book! Forts, Thiruvizha, secret meets, clash between Shiva & Vishnu followers, ocean crossing to Lanka, elephant ride all brought on stage!

The fight between ships at the dead of night on Indian ocean which couldn't b brought on stage but imp to the plot was told from the eyes of a survivor to the village people with part miming & that was the director's brilliance!

Previous stage performance was set for 7.5hrs in 1999 & Kamal Haasan after watching it fully had asked the team to cut short so that it would reach to all audience! It took 15yrs to edit the plot, to resurrect the hope that it could be done again, to search for younger acting talents, to redesign the set so that it covers all imp scenes & now its back! It may take 15more yrs to view it on silverscreen may b in a better motion capture technology!

Rise of an Empire Review !

A spinoff from the Greeks' perspective covering the past, present & future of the time set in 300 !

War fought by Farmers, Poets and Artists by profession should not be compared with that of the Spartans though they have also glorified the 300's sacrifice by trying to provide an equal fight !!

The movie is a visual treat abt how the battles were won & lost on the blood thirsty sea, abt how each had their own reason to fight, abt how none was black or white but all grey at their hearts, abt how there r more huge wars to come & its just the beginning of them !!

Highway Movie Review !

Similar to Kamal Haasan's Tamil film Guna, the basic plot is hero abducting heroine and sooner the heroine doesn't regret getting kidnapped and they hide on a hill-top. Mix to this, a chit-chat 'Jab We Met' Kareena in lesser proportions, what you get is Imtiaz Ali's 'Highway' !!

Its the lyrics in the songs and the music of A.R.Rahman in the 2nd half which remind us that we are not watching a travelogue of Indian states and set different moods while the pair is travelling ! But what visuals !! Even a stinky dark room is so rich via Anil Mehta's camera !!

The journey though never got bored and was so engaging due to the Supreme performance of Alia Bhatt and Imtiaz's direction especially at the climax !!

Having stuck in the same state of India for many yrs, it was refreshing for me to watch the movie.. But can't expect the same if you're a 'masala' movie fan or if you have already boasted by posting your own Highway journey pics on Facebook :D

Though philosophical dialogues (expected them being a Road movie) were lesser, it has conveyed a stronger message from Indian women to their families through Alia's voice hence superior to most Hindi films released recently !!!

The Wolf of Wall Street Review

Having seen 3 back to back Martin Scorsese movies on a 2012 night at the Roof Top Film Fest with the Chief Guest being Gautham Menon, its almost unavoidable to catch the latest Martin directed movie on theatre !

A biopic about the rise and fall of a Wall Street Stock Broker and how he and his Empire minted money out of working class people in the 1990s. But it is so hilariously presented that even the guys who believed the brokers' words, invested money and became as****es may laugh their heart out !!

The gore murders in Martin's earlier films are replaced with dark humor and lust everywhere. The 3 hour long movie seems to move so fast that it makes his previous films 'Casino' and ' The Aviator' look comparatively drag !! Continuous laughter assured for over 10mins in the 2nd half when DiCaprio takes in a strong brand of drug and its effects on him and his friend :)

Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated for an Oscar again and if he doesn't win this time too, Google will generate more results on 'why he has never won an Oscar yet' and 'why he shouldn't win an Oscar ever'!!

Another different biopic with Martin's signatures all over it !! :)

P.S : Kindly don't watch with family or with girlfriend(s) to avoid awkward silence in the theatre at a few moments ;) (Unless you are not watching in our Incredible India) !! :)
